Pella Resthouse

Pella of the Decapolis is one of the roman cities and Jordan's most continually inhabited archeological site with uninterrupted for at least 10,000 years.

The resthouse  was constructed in 1991using the traditional structural systems of vaulted ceilings without the use of reinforcement steel. This building was executed by the people of village of Tabaqet Fahl (Pella) under the directions of the architect.  

Designed to implement traditional structural elements, vaults resting on baring walls, the building was labor intensive project that has provided income for 30 families for 16 months. The building ways about 1500 tons, all carried by hand with nearly 1000 tons rubble stone were gathered from the surrounding and transported to the building site on using donkeys to maximize the share of local costs and avoid the negative impact of heavy trucks on the natural and archeological environment.
